Who would have thought that Roseto Valfortore one day would be hosting a truffle festival to celebrate what many people of my age or older remembered and identified as “U TARATUFFL’e”, a land mushroom that used to be sought after and eaten by pigs grazing in the woods.
Then one day a young Rosetano labourer, Giuseppe Rossi, while in Abruzzo met a hunter of underground mushrooms and was attracted by this old product of our land that had become a new flavour on the tables of many connoisseurs, a knowledge that turned him into a passionate hunter. A mushroom once despised today is at the center of a trade and tasting worthy of having a festival dedicated to it every year.
On August 3rd, 2023, with the support of the Municipal Administration and the Proloco Association of Roseto, our village held this event as it has done for several years now, attracting tourists from all over Italy to come and enjoy our Rosetana cuisine enriched by the scent of this precious tuber “The Truffle King”. In addition to the typical local dishes, tourists found two other basic things in our community, hospitality and the unique and precious microclimate with its coolness and its scents.
For truffle lovers, an opportunity not to be missed. A very successful festival made livelier by a beautiful voice singing Aretha Franklin’s melodies. Thanks to the Municipal Administration who is committed in keeping the town alive and to the regional funds targeted to ensure that small towns like ours are increasing tourist attractions in the hope that this will revive the town.
Roseto and its people are waiting for you and so is the air. The same air each one of us who has left and is now far away misses.

La Sagra del tartufo a Roseto Valfortore
Uno dei Borghi più belli d’Italia
Ma chi l’avrebbe mai detto o pensato che Roseto Valfortore un giorno sarebbe diventato un paese che festeggia, con una Sagra, il tartufo, eppure tanti anziani e gente della mia età, meno anziani, ma con anni sulle spalle hanno come ricordo un nome che identificava questo fungo di terra “U TARATUFFL’e” era molto ricercato e mangiato dai maiali che pascolavano nei boschi, però un giorno un giovane lavoratore Rosetano, tal Giuseppe Rossi, trovandosi in Abruzzo incontrò un cercatore di tale fungo sotterraneo e fu attratto da questo prodotto vecchio del territorio ma nuovo come sapore sulle tavole di molti intenditori, diventando un cercatore appassionato, un fungo una volta disprezzato oggi al centro di un commercio e di una degustazione degna di avere ogni anno una Sagra a lui dedicata.
Il 3 di Agosto, voluto con il patrocinio dell’ Amministrazione Comunale e l’Ente Proloco di Roseto, c’è stato, nel nostro Borgo, questo avvenimento che ormai da parecchi anni attira turisti da ogni parte d’Italia per venire a gustare in mille modi la cucina Rosetana arricchita dal profumo di questo prezioso tubero “Il Re Tartufo” oltre ai piatti tipici del nostro paese il turista ha trovato due cose basilari della nostra Comunità, l’ospitalità ed il microclima unico e prezioso con la sua frescura e I suoi profumi. Per gli amanti del tartufo, un’occasione assolutamente da non perdere. Sagra riuscitissima allietata da una bellissima voce che cantava melodie di Aretha Franklin. Grazie all’ Amministrazione Comunale attenta a mantenere il paese vivo ed ai fondi Regionali mirati per farsi che i piccoli paesi come il nostro siano sempre più attrazione turistica e la speranza che ciò faccia rivivere il paese. Venite a Roseto vi aspettiamo e vi aspetta la vostra aria, quella che ognuno di noi che è stato o è lontano ne sente il profumo.
